Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) creates a personalized assessment experience by adapting to each student’s learning level—precisely measuring student progress and growth for each individual.
The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) and alternate assessment Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS) are the state tests that help districts measure student progress toward Minnesota’s academic standards and also meet federal and state legislative requirements.
Reading: MCA or MTAS (grades 3-8, 10)
Mathematics: MCA or MTAS (grades 3-8, 11)
Science: MCA or MTAS (grades 5, 8, and high school)
The ACCESS for ELLs and Alternate ACCESS for ELLs are the assessments developed by the WIDA consortium and administered to English learners in order to measure progress toward meeting Minnesota’s standards for English language development, developed by the WIDA consortium.
Districts have a number of requirements to fulfill for students’ career and college planning for students first enrolled in grade 8 in 2012–2013 and later. This includes offering students in grades 11 and 12 an opportunity to participate in a nationally recognized college entrance exam (ACT or SAT) on a school day. The Fergus Falls School District will administer the ACT exam to all juniors on April 3, 2018.
The ASVAB stands for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, a standardized test used to rate an individual’s aptitude for service in the United States Armed Forces. It helps recruitment officers determine an individual’s suitability for particular branches of service or for specific military jobs. It is NOT an intelligence test, but rather a test of one’s individual strengths and weaknesses in areas such as math, science, and reading, as well as one’s current knowledge of specific mechanical, electronic, automotive, and shop concepts.
The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude) is, as the title suggests, a preliminary version of the SAT. Not only does the PSAT help prepare students to take the SAT or ACT, the great thing about the PSAT is that a high score can also open the door to National Merit Scholarships and other awards.
The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills.
ACCUPLACER is an integrated system of computer-adaptive assessments designed to evaluate students’ skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
